The Webster Technique

When you are bringing a new baby into the world, thousands of thoughts and questions run through your mind at any given time. Will my baby be healthy? What will they look like? Will it be a girl or a boy? All of these are typical thoughts for most expecting mothers; what is not a general concern is if chiropractic care is necessary during the pregnancy.

Pregnancy and Chiropractic Care Wentzville, MOThe truth is, there is a specific technique utilized during pregnancy that can help with getting the baby into the proper position in the uterus and ensuring there is enough room for the baby to develop and grow; this is called The Webster Technique.

This technique was developed by Larry Webster specifically for sacral adjustment during pregnancy to help balance the pelvic muscles and ligaments. Its focus is reducing subluxations, thus, creating more space in the pelvis.

When an imbalance occurs, movement is restricted in the sacrum, which can create tightness and tension in the uterus and stress and pressure on the baby. Applying the Webster Technique releases pressure and creates more space for the baby to move into a comfortable head-down position.

How Is The Webster Technique Applied?

Like other chiropractic adjustments, the Webster Technique is gentle and safe – never applying direct pressure to the baby. A low force is applied to the sacrum, followed by a low abdominal adjustment to reduce tension. Following the adjustment, you may notice that your belly looks more symmetrical or that you are feeling an increase in activity and kicking from the baby; this is completely normal as now they have that extra space.

It is a good idea to get in to see a chiropractor as early in the pregnancy as possible to help prevent any misalignments, but it is beneficial at any stage; even up to 38 weeks, you can still benefit from adjustments.
